Dear Verizon

November 10th, 2006

Thank you for calling me today (and every day this week) to let me know about the “exciting new” FiOS Internet service. You may recall installing it at my home back in February. While I do appreciate the persistence on your part to sell me a service I already subscribe to it would be nice if your CSR’s would remove me from your database or at least cross reference your current subscriber database. I really like the service - just quit pestering the shit out of me :)
Respectfully,

Jon

FiOS!

February 22nd, 2006

I switched over to Verizon’s FiOS high-speed Internet service today. The install was a breeze and only took a few hours from start to finish. So far my only gripe is the port-80 blocking but other than that things are working smoothly. My review at DSLReports is here.

decorations

November 28th, 2004

This afternoon we finally got around to disposing of our Halloween pumpkins and dug out our holiday decorations. After untangling the ball of lights left over from last year I found the majority of them no longer worked. I vaguely remember having the exact same problem then as well. Either I buy really cheap lights or I suck at storing them. Fortunately, strands of lights are relatively inexpensive so after a quick trip to the store we could finish decorating. We might hang some more lights during the week but so far I’m pleased with how it turned out.

On the seventh day I did yard work

May 3rd, 2004

After months of procrastination Heather and I decided to do start landscaping our side yard. Some weeding was in order before we could start working on the space. Twenty-six bags of dirt later we now have raised flowerbeds and the first phase of our landscaping project complete. After a day of work it is already a vast improvement. Next weekend’s task is to cover the beds in bark dust, build a sitting area, and complete the path down the length of our yard.

This is the kind of spontaneous publicity I need

April 24th, 2004

Mapquest finally has our street listed in its database. I feel almost as excited as Navin R. Johnson did when the “new” phone books arrived. In all seriousness I’m happy that I won’t need to explain that my address does in fact exist next time I have something delivered.

Cartography

January 30th, 2004

Contrary to what FedEx may think our house has an address that does actually exist. One of the perils of living in new construction is that our street doesn’t yet show up on maps. Whenever we have something delivered to the house I end up trying to explain that the address is in fact correct and that their maps are simply out of date. Even after I manage to convince them and get the item delivered we end up going through it again the next time they have something to deliver.

Hopefully they will get updated area maps soon.

Home Improvement

November 11th, 2003

Today, I took advantage of the time off I had for the holiday (one of the benefits of working for a bank) and completed a few home improvement items I’ve been meaning to get too. We finally installed the rods and hung the drapes in our dining room. I also spent the afternoon wiring and mounting the rear surround speakers in my living room.
